Stop Sending Living Creatures Through the Post

The Issue

Petition to Governments, Postal Services, and Online Retailers

Every year, countless living creatures — including insects, fish, reptiles, chicks, and other animals — are packaged into boxes and transported through postal and courier systems.

During transit, these animals can experience extreme temperatures, dehydration, oxygen deprivation, rough handling, stress, injury, and death.

No living being should be treated as a parcel.

While some postal shipments are legal and commercially widespread, legality does not make the practice humane. Animals are sent through systems designed for objects, not sentient life.

Delays, mishandling, and inadequate welfare protections can lead to immense suffering.

We are calling for:

* A ban on the postal shipment of all living creatures except where essential for licensed conservation or emergency veterinary purposes.
* Stronger animal welfare laws covering transportation and commercial trade.
* Greater accountability for online sellers and courier companies involved in live animal shipping.
* Investment in humane alternatives that prioritise animal welfare over convenience and profit.
* Clear public transparency regarding mortality rates and welfare conditions during transport.

This issue affects millions of animals worldwide. From exotic pets to insects sold online, living creatures are too often reduced to products that can be boxed, labelled, and delivered.

Animals are not mail.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for compassion, ethical treatment, and stronger protections for vulnerable living beings.

Together, we can help end the suffering caused by shipping living creatures through the postal system.
