Stop Selling Puppy Mill Puppies in City of Largo, FL!
Please Pass This Along to Residents in Largo, Florida.
PLEASE STATE IF YOU ARE FROM LARGO IN COMMENTS WHEN YOU SIGN.
Hello Largo Residents,
Your Commissioners at City Hall bought into the lies about where the puppy stores source their puppies from. Last year, the Largo Commissioners banned new puppy stores from selling puppies in your city but grandfathered in two puppy stores on Ulmerton Road. We need your help by attending, zooming, and sending e-mails in support of banning ALL puppy retail sales in Largo. Commission meetings are at 6pm the first and third Tuesday of the month at Largo City Hall (201 Highland Ave, Largo FL 33770). Please join our group of concerned citizens. Many will be speaking, so please join us in person or VIA ZOOM! Largo residents ONLY can also speak VIA ZOOM, ANYONE in person. If you speak on ZOOM, you will have to "raise your hand" once connected. You are welcome to speak for 3 minutes during the Public Comment portion of the meeting. Please tell your commissioners not to allow puppy sales at the two puppy stores because not only are puppy mills inhumane, but consumers are also getting stuck with sick puppies and puppies with congenital defects. Please sign this petition and leave a comment which reflects your city and state, so the Commissioners know you are concerned. Please also send them an e-mail stating that you support a FULL ban on retail puppy sales. We need commissioners to know Largo residents will not stand for animal cruelty!

Dear Commissioner,
Please remove grandfathering for the 2 Largo retail puppy pet shops and incorporate a rescue model.
Thank you!
More Info:
The "City of Largo" FL has 2 retail puppy pet shops in their jurisdiction. Commissioners grandfathered these stores last year, which ultimately benefits them because it removes their competition. The goal is to end an abusive industry, eliminate the pipeline, and save lives.
In year 2022, we know where these puppies are coming from. We know the mothers are bred until their bodies give out and are no longer profitable and the animals are crammed into dirty and tiny cages with protruding wires, and never set foot on grass or experience human interaction. The animals are only bred for profit and are not bred for temperament or health. This results in puppies with dangerous genetics and health issues. The Golden Retriever is known for their lovable temperaments, but many are coming out of these pet shops with aggression. German Shepherds are already prone to hip dysplasia but are developing extremely early onset. Then of course Parvovirus, a high contagious virus contracted by unvaccinated or minimally vaccinated dogs, which can become fatal without expensive veterinary hospitalization.
After USDA reports were pulled, it was discovered several of their breeders have received several violations over the years including filthy and/or dangerous housing accommodations, and inadequate veterinary care, etc. Additionally, the USDA is not appropriately doing their job regulating and citing these breeders. Instead, they have moved to a "teachable moments" category. That means, the breeders are given continuous warnings instead of the violations they were previously citing. This is another reward for both the breeders, middlemen (brokers), and retail puppy pet shops.
We are asking "City of Largo" FL commissioners to remove the grandfather clause for these two retail puppy pet shops. We are not asking them to close down these businesses. They deserve a livelihood too, but an ethical one. We are simply asking for them to change to a rescue model, like Petco and Petsmart. Please consider signing this petition in support of removing the grandfather clause and incorporating a rescue model for the two "City of Largo" FL retail puppy pet shops. We need your help!
