I am speaking out for my school located in Cincinnati Ohio USA. The reason for this is because of Securly. I’m not a student that worries about me loosing my game progress because of Securly or I can't play games at school. Like most other students that struggle with securly they struggle because they (most likely) want to play games during class and avoid doing work. That isn’t the reason I am writing about securly. I am writing about it because Securly can access any information on your school issued device, Even the private family documents I have on my computer. They also access the camera and microphone and can record you without you knowing and without your permission. Securly has also been involved in lawsuits due to them selling private student/home information on Securly monitored devices. Yeah I get the point of Securly, They want to monitor their students devices to make sure they are safe. They want to make schools better because they alert administrators if they search something that could be related to bullying/self harm. I support securly for that. They can also access your search history. In an article that I read is saying that “Securly only works when it is communicating with the School’s WiFi system on school property” This is not true as when I am on my own time and on my own internet and on my own property, I cannot watch a simple Youtube video about Math. Although it is educational, Securly blocks it because there are other videos on Youtube that can be related to bullying/self harm therefore Securly thinks it is a website that promotes bullying/self harm behavior so Securly blocks all of youtube. I know administrators can block or unblock those types of things. I am not a student that is too irritated by Securly but I dislike it. I can avoid it by going on my own personal laptop that is not school issued. I am simply writing this because they invade mine and other students privacy by like i have said before “Accessing Microphone and Camera” and also “Accessing search history and Full control over the device” Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope you support my words and you feel inspired to speak out about Securly like I am.
