Re: Reconsideration of the Section Reshuffling Policy

We, the undersigned college students of Systems Plus Computer College from the affected 2nd year to 4th year levels, respectfully submit this petition to express our concern regarding the recent decision to implement section reshuffling. While we understand that reorganizing sections may be intended to serve administrative or academic purposes, we believe that the policy, as currently implemented, may negatively affect student performance, well-being, and the overall learning environment.

Our Concerns

1. Disruption of established learning communities

Many of us have spent years building strong academic relationships and support systems within our sections. For students currently working on thesis projects, capstone requirements, major group activities, and OJT preparations, these relationships are essential to effective collaboration and productivity. Section reshuffling may disrupt these established teams and require students to rebuild working relationships during a critical stage of their studies.

2. Loss of academic momentum

Students have already adapted to their current study habits, group dynamics, and support systems. Reshuffling sections would require students to adjust to new classmates, rebuild trust in group settings, and establish new routines. This transition may consume valuable time and energy that should instead be focused on coursework, examinations, thesis writing, and other academic responsibilities.

3. Impact on student well-being

Classroom stability and strong peer connections contribute to a positive learning environment and help reduce stress and anxiety. Sudden changes to established academic and social structures can create unnecessary pressure on students, particularly those balancing demanding requirements such as thesis work, capstone projects, and OJT preparation.

4. Unequal impact across the affected year levels

The effects of section reshuffling differ among the affected students. A 2nd year student may face challenges in adjusting to a new environment, while 3rd and 4th year students may experience greater difficulties due to ongoing thesis work, capstone projects, major requirements, and preparations for graduation and employment. A single policy applied equally to all affected year levels does not adequately consider these differences.

Our Request

We respectfully ask the administration to:

- Reconsider or suspend the blanket section reshuffling policy for the current academic year; or

- Exempt or provide alternative arrangements for students in critical years, particularly 3rd and 4th year students and those with ongoing group-based requirements such as thesis, capstone projects, major requirements, and OJT; and

- Consult students before implementing any future section changes through formal dialogue with student council representatives or class officers.

We are not opposed to improvement or reorganization in principle. Our concern lies with the timing, scope, and lack of consultation surrounding this policy. By reconsidering this decision or working with students to find a reasonable middle ground, the administration can uphold both academic quality and student well-being, values that we believe Systems Plus Computer College also upholds.

We sincerely thank the administration for their time and consideration and hope for a constructive response.
