The Issue

I visited Singers Hill Synagogue, in Birmingham city centre, in January 2023 with my daughter's Year 3 class from Abbey Catholic Primary. I left feeling very unsettled. My main concern was a large artwork celebrating the IDF and their actions to 'defend the land of Israel' (pictured below)

Whilst the IDF is committing Genocide in Palestine I believe it is morally wrong to visit a Zionist institution. So, I went through a year long complaints procedure, with the St John Paul II MAC, where my complaint was 'UPHELD'.

No change was implemented.

The recommendations given were not actionable. When I questioned the lack of action I was abruptly shut down and told that was an end to the issue. The school visited again in January 2024 and a picture was taken of the children sat near to the large plaque.

Over the past 2 years, The Genocide being committed by the IDF, has become more bloodthirsty. Many other parents agree, these school visits are a huge safeguarding issue.

Birmingham schools visit Singers Hill as part of their Multi Faith Week. I support the learning, and understanding, of different religions. However, Zionism is not a religion it is a political military ideology which wants to colonise Palestine. A classroom of children has been murdered everyday in Palestine since October 7th and we as parents do not wish to support this ethic cleaning.

Throughout the MACs 'investigation' I offered a safe and real Jewish alternative. The Neturei Karta is a Jewish anti-Zionist organisation that was founded in Jerusalem in 1938. I have a contact, Rabbi Beck, who would love to partner with the schools across Birmingham to teach the true Jewish religion and traditions.

I wrote to the CEO of the MAC, Theresa Cotter, again recently to reopen this concern as things have escalated to such a devastating degree in Palestine. She again shut me down and stated, "there will be no further communication regarding this matter and therefore any further communication will be filed."

Schools are paying money to visit Singers Hill - other religions settings do not charge. It seems to me Birmingham parents are unwittingly giving money to support the genocide.

Please sign and share this petition so no schools across Birmingham visit Singers Hill until the plaque to the IDF is removed.
