Stop School Parking on Residential Streets

The Issue

My neighbor two houses down from me had his house catch on fire back in April of 2024. Luckily, the fire happened at night instead of during the day around school pick up. If it had happened during school pick up, then the fire truck and police wouldn't have been able to get down the street to my neighbor's house. The thought of what could have happened is terrifying.

Our neighborhood streets become dangerously congested during the school pick-up hours, with parents parking their cars in front of my house and all along the street. The street is so crowded that an emergency vehicle would not be able to get down the street if needed. There was a house fire in my neighborhood two doors down from me last year. Luckily, it was a night where the street was clear enough for emergency vehicles and police to get down the street. But what about next time?

Moreover, I am genuinely concerned for the safety of the students. I do not want to see any of the kids get hurt due to the congestion or the nearby roadworks, which already pose significant risks. There have been ongoing roadworks nearby, adding to the chaos and danger during these busy times.

We need a solution that ensures the safety and accessibility of our streets for emergencies while also considering the students' welfare. One actionable solution is for the school to implement a new pick-up procedure where parents pick up their children directly from school premises, rather than parking along the residential streets. This can not only ease congestion but also reduce potential hazards for everyone involved.

Let's make our neighborhood safer for emergencies and protect all our children from potential dangers. Please sign this petition to support implementing a safer and more organized school pick-up system that keeps our streets clear and our community safe.
