The issue

My name is Dale Naden, and I am a Traditional Owner of the Pilliga Country. For countless generations, my ancestors have walked, cherished, and protected this sacred land. The Pilliga Scrub is not just a forest; it is an irreplaceable sanctuary teeming with rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and environmental significance. Unfortunately, this precious land is under grave threat due to ongoing harmful activities by Santos, a destructive force that prioritise profit over preservation.

Santos' operations have led to land degradation and disruption of the delicate balance of the Pilliga ecosystem. The dense network of life faces irreversible harm – including endangered species of flora and fauna and the water systems which keep it alive. The artesian basin, a crucial water source for both the local community and wildlife, risks contamination from these exploitative endeavours.

Recently, numerous reports and environmental assessments have highlighted the alarming levels of pollution and damage in regions where Santos operates. Santos' activities have already led to measurable ecological disturbances that require immediate intervention.

As custodians of this land, we've seen firsthand the adverse effects on our environment and cultural heritage. Santos has paid NO attention to the cultural significance of the Biligaa to our mob, its stories and connections with Gomeroi across the north west. They have paid NO attention to climate impacts that will result.

We call upon Santos to halt operations immediately and commit to remediating the environmental damage inflicted on the Pilliga Scrub and surrounding areas. The time for collaboration is over, there is no good faith, after our people voted NO! to their plans.

By signing this petition, you help amplify our call for action and safeguard the future of the Pilliga Scrub and the artesian basin, ensuring they remain untouched treasures for generations to come. Please sign and help protect our shared heritage.
