UPDATE: NC BEAR SANCTUARIES
We are happy to announce that North Carolina Legislators are taking swift action against the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's rule allowing bear hunting in the Panthertown-Bonas Defeat, Standing Indian, and Pisgah Bear Sanctuaries. On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, the North Carolina General Assembly filed House Bill 1072 to block the NCWRC's rule. On May 27, 2022, the bill passed its first reading and was referred to the Committee on Rules Calendar and Operations of the House. This legislative process will continue through the long session in 2023 because the Rules Review Commission's final approval for legislative review occurred on May 19, 2022, a day after the legislative session began. If passed, House Bill 1072 will prohibit the killing of bears in bear sanctuaries.
We have created a new petition in support of HB 1072. Please sign, share, and complete the calls to action, including contacting all House Members of the N.C. House of Representatives stating you SUPPORT HB 1072 and thanking the 13 Representatives who sponsored and co-sponsored this bill.
Together we have the power to stop this. Let's keep up the momentum for the bears.
