Stop Rodeo Cruelty in Moruya

Stop Rodeo Cruelty in Moruya
The issue
Moruya is a scenic town on the far south coast of NSW. The local Rodeo Association has applied to Eurobodalla Shire Council for a five-year renewal of its licence.
Rodeos are opposed by every animal welfare organisation, because they cause fear, distress and potential serious injury to animals. They are banned in the ACT, the UK and several parts of the Europe and the United States. They are a cruel hangover from the days when tormenting animals was regarded as entertainment.
Rodeos can only operate by a special exemption from the NSW Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979. All they have to comply with is a 35-year-old Code of Practice which has never been updated. The code allows for the use of electric prods, and for animals to receive food and water only once in 24 hours. It doesn't even require a vet to be present at events!
Eurobodalla Shire Council was seeking submissions on the future of the rodeo until 31 January 2023. Although the submission deadline has passed, we have the time between now and the Council meeting which will decide on the rodeo issue to keep up the pressure on the Mayor and Councillors.
The more people who sign, the better the chance of a good outcome for the animals, so please keep signing and sharing!
Thank you for speaking up for our fellow creatures who cannot speak for themselves.
