Stop Risking Lives at Air Shows – Prioritise Pilot Safety

The Issue

“Every pilot’s life matters. Sign now to demand safer air shows and protect those who protect us.”

Air shows put highly trained pilots at extreme risk for spectacle and publicity. After the recent tragic Tejas crash in Dubai, it’s time to reconsider whether such demonstrations are worth risking lives.

Fighter jets are meant for defense, training, and testing—not for performing dangerous stunts to entertain crowds. Wing Commander Namansh Syal, a skilled Indian Air Force pilot, lost his life during a demonstration at the Dubai Air Show. This tragedy highlights the extreme risks involved in air-show performances.

Air shows put even the most skilled pilots at extreme risk. The recent Tejas crash at the Dubai Air Show tragically killed Wing Commander Namansh Syal. This is only the second Tejas crash in over 20 years. The aircraft is designed for defense and training, not dangerous aerobatic stunts.

Key Facts:

 • Tejas: speeds up to Mach 1.8, 60% of components made in India.

 • Past air-show disasters: 1988 Ramstein – 70 dead; 2002 Sknyliv – 77 dead, 500+ injured.

 • Dubai crash occurred during a high-risk low-altitude manoeuver.

Highlight urgency, human impact, and solutions right at the start. Start with the recent Tejas crash and Wing Commander Namansh Syal’s sacrifice to grab attention. Then immediately show facts and statistics to back up the risk. Finally, end with a clear call to action for the Indian Ministry of Defence and Air Force.

We urge the Indian government and the Ministry of Defence to:

Reassess air-show practices and the necessity of high-risk demonstrations.
Implement stricter safety regulations for pilots and aircraft if demonstrations continue.
Prioritize pilot lives over spectacle in all military aviation events.

Pilots dedicate their lives to protecting our nation. We owe them a duty of care that goes beyond entertainment or publicity. Please support this petition to make air shows safer and prevent future tragedies.

Sign this petition to urge the government to review and improve air-show safety policies. Let’s honour our pilots by keeping them safe.
