Both the City and Developer of the proposed low rental housing on 19th St. between 3rd and 4th Avenues reference the West Hillhurst population decline, thus justifying views on further densification and the necessity to continue to build to energize the area and assist current businesses in flourishing. This is a simplified view and may not be inaccurate.   

• Hundreds of residents of 5 senior's lodges were not counted; leading to both an inaccurate census and an inflated number representing community resident incomes  
• the decline in residents forced out of West Hillhurst as a result of building  Crowchild Trail are not addressed as a reason for a population shift 
• City staff advise not to compare populations from the 60's as boundaries have changed
• there is little allowance for counting the impact of short term rentals, home based business and homes converted to businesses, all of which create a vibrant community but don't add to population.
