Stop Rezoning of 2794 W Skyline Rd to Heavy Industrial
The Issue
Like many of you who have chosen to make this area your home, (Skyline Rd, Mescal/ J6) we deeply value its rural tranquility. The peace and quiet of our surroundings are not just what we have become accustomed to, but the very reasons we selected this neighborhood as our home. The proposed rezoning of 2794 W Skyline Rd to Heavy Industrial by BJ Real Estate LLC, also known as BJ Drilling, threatens to disrupt this tranquility.
Granting permission for this rezoning undermines the unique character of the community we have all worked so hard to build and maintain. The potential presence of a heavy industrial enterprise will undoubtedly introduce a quality of chaos, noise, and disturbance we moved here to avoid. Aside from disrupting our peaceful lives, it could also pose numerous issues which directly affect various aspects of our day to day living.
One major concern we have with the rezoning to HI is our water. Many of us are on wells. Some are not, but that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be impacted if the “New Business” decided to use up all the water, leaving us with dry wells, which we would be forced to dig deeper to obtain water. This would be a HUGE expense - one which many of us may not be able to afford, ultimately forcing us out of the place we call home. Additionally, depending on what business was put in place, we could have issues with how clean our water is. A chemical plant, or even waste facility could potentially pollute our water, making it undrinkable and needing additional costly systems to have safe clean water. These are just a few examples.
Plans to alter the zoning laws should not be made lightly, and we urge all decision-makers to prioritize the wishes and needs of the citizens over the business interests of corporations. Together, we can prevent this unnerving change and preserve the tranquility of our neighborhood.
Please, sign this petition to fight the rezoning of 2794 W Skyline Rd to Heavy Industrial. Your voice can make a difference in preserving the lifestyle we know and love.
