Family photo JERSEY CITY -- The 11-year-old boy who was hit by a commuter bus this morning on one of Hudson County's busiest roads has died, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari confirmed. The child, identified as George Gonzalez, was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center around 8:20 a.m. in "extremely critical condition" after being struck by the bus at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Neptune Avenue. A family member at the hospital this morning said the boy lives on Kennedy Boulevard at the same intersection where his life ended. The family member said the bus was maneuvering around a double-parked truck when it struck George, who was crossing the street alone. His family usually watches him cross the street in the morning from the window of their home, the woman added. Family members gathering at the entrance to the Jersey City Medical Center emergency room screamed and cried when they were notified of the child's death. Schillari, whose office is leading the accident investigation, confirmed the boy's death around 11 a.m. However, additional details on the crash were not immediately available this morning, as the investigation continues. About an hour and a half after the boy was struck, a man in the area said he heard the impact and was sure it was the sound of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. "I heard the hit," said the man, who only identified himself as Mark, as he hovered near the police tape. "You can tell the difference between a crash and a hit – it was the thump." Mark said he went to where the boy lay in the street and said "He wasn't moving. The little man got hit hard."
