The issue

DISABLED LIVES MATTER

People with disability are being placed at risk because they are not receiving the care they need. In some cases, this has led to preventable harm and death.

People with disability deserve safe, appropriate, and respectful healthcare.
Right now, many NDIS participants with complex medical needs are being denied funding for 24/7 Registered Nursing care.

Instead, highly complex medical tasks are being delegated to Disability Support Workers who are not clinically trained to perform them.

This is not safe.

This is not fair.

And in some cases, it is costing lives.

These decisions are placing:

  • People with disability in dangerous situations
  • Families and carers under extreme stress
  • Support workers in roles they are not trained for
  • Nurses in ethically and professionally risky positions

This is not a failure of individuals.

This is a failure of the system.

We are calling for immediate action to ensure that people with complex medical needs receive the level of care required to keep them safe.

What We Are Calling For
We call on the Australian Government and the NDIS to:

  • Fund 24/7 Registered Nursing care for participants with complex medical needs
  • Establish clear national guidelines on what medical tasks can and cannot be delegated
  • Align NDIS funding decisions with healthcare standards and clinical best practice
  • Ensure accountability where unsafe care decisions are made

People with disability should never be placed at risk because of funding decisions.

By signing this petition, you are helping to demand safer, fairer healthcare and ensuring that every person is treated with dignity and respect.
