Stop Putin! Give Ukraine longer-range MLRS weapons now!
The Issue
Dear President Biden,
On May 27, 2022, you gave a speech at the U.S. Naval Academy asking its graduates to be “defenders of democracy” and stating in an unmistakable term how horrible Vladimir Putin is and that he is “literally trying to wipe out the culture and identity of the Ukrainian people”. If he succeeds in Ukraine, he will try to wipe out the culture and identity of the next country that strives for freedom and democracy. Putin is like Hitler. One of his stooges in the Russian parliament even explicitly said that Russia should take Alaska back.
If you truly want Ukraine to win as you said and preserve the world’s rule based order, why did you refuse to give the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the Multiple Rocket Launch System (MRLS) to Ukraine?
Putin is from the old Soviet Union and is ruling Russia the same way. The only thing that will stop Putin from using nuclear weapons against the West is the West’s threat of nuclear retaliation. Putin will do what he thinks that he will be able to get away with. Appeasing Putin will not lower the risk of nuclear war just postponing it. Only our show of strength and Putin’s downfall will preserve the rule-based order and world peace.
The Soviet Union gave its most advanced fighter jets and its other advanced military system to Communist North Vietnam to fight and kill Americans during the Vietnam War.
The HIMARS and MLRS are our 1990s technology. There’s no reasonable rational for us not to give these weapons to Ukraine.
For you, Mr. President, to announce your refusal to give Ukraine these weapons on Memorial Day, saddened most of us who love and believe in America as it associated our most sacred day of honoring our fallen heroes and the American values to your decision.
I sincerely hope that you will reverse your decision and honor our American value as defenders of democracy by giving the freedom-loving Ukrainians these minimum tools to fight for their existence!
Respectfully,
