We, the undersigned politely ask our city create an ordinance to prohibit the sale of commercially bred puppies (puppy mill puppies) in pet stores. As an alternative we suggest the very economically successful model of having retail stores sell pet supplies or offer other pet services such as grooming.

These puppies come at high prices and these puppy mill pet stores use predatory lending with APRs that can end up being unreasonable high in some cases as high as 200%

Puppies bred in deplorable conditions often have communicable diseases such as parvo and congenital diseases caused by poor breeding that cost families exorbitant amounts of money over the lifetime of the pet.

The cities of Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Gig Harbor, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Kitsap County have already taken this important step to protect the animals and families within their communities. We respectfully request that the city of Renton do the same.
