Stop Puntland Government from Taking Over Gol Nugaal Women and Children Hospital

The issue

In 2015, a sense of purpose and passion united a diverse group of Somali women from across the world under the banner of 'Gol Nugaal'. We were driven by the dire healthcare needs of women and children in the Nugaal region of Somalia. Despite the considerable geographic distances and timezone differences, we collaborated tirelessly—raising funds from the community—sharing a dream to construct a hospital that would prioritize the health and well-being of women and children.

After years of dedication and hard work, Gol Nugaal Hospital finally opened its doors in 2021. To this day, we persist in contributing our personal funds to help maintain its operations, ensuring that women and children throughout Somalia, especially those in urgent need, receive the care they deserve.

Alarmingly, the Puntland Government is now attempting to exert control over Gol Nugaal Hospital, jeopardizing the foundational ethos of community-driven care that we have strived so hard to establish. This institution was not just built with financial contributions from our diaspora; it was built with love, dedication, and a commitment to uplift the health standards of the region from those who live both near and far.

The Puntland government abused its power by coercing the hospital director into signing illegitimate transfer documents. Under pressure and intimidation, she was misled to believe that refusing would cut off vital funding—an untrue claim that renders the document legally invalid.

The attempted takeover threatens to undermine the very purpose of this hospital, which was established to serve as an independent, community-led beacon of hope and healing. We invite support from all corners of the world to stand against this hostile takeover—support us in ensuring that Gol Nugaal continues to operate with integrity and dedication to its mission.

Your signature is not just support; it's a stand for community empowerment, for the right to independently build and maintain resources that serve our people. Help us preserve this sanctuary for the women and children of Somalia. Please sign this petition to rally against the takeover and keep Gol Nugaal Hospital in the hands of those who truly have the community’s best interests at heart.
