The Glasgow City Council Budget for 2023/24 was published this week.

Alongside a 5% increase in council tax, cutting to public amenities such as swimming pools and libraries, the proposal also outlined a charge to the Glasgow Botanic Gardens Glasshouses to supposedly raise £185,000 to help fill their £49m budget gap.

This is a public building, visited frequently by locals and visitors. We, as council tax payers, deserve to reap the benefits of our local community and should be granted access to such public goods, as we have been for years gone by.
