STOP PROPOSED BUS LANE ON BOWES ROAD A1110 (N11 1AT)
The Issue
PETITION TO: STOP ENFIELD COUNCIL – PROPOSED BUS LANE ON BOWES ROAD A1110 (N11 1AT)
This action will have a massive impact on the local residents. Residents who live on the road and local communities will have less place to park their vehicles on an already very congested road.
The traffic in the area is already very congested due to new LTN’s put in place by the council, more people are being forced to use Bowes Road as a means of getting through the area.
By enforcing the bus lane to be operational between 7am-7pm; the impact of the traffic on this road and the surroundings roads will be unbearable for both road users and local residents.
REASON GIVEN BY ENFIELD COUNCIL WITH REPLY TO OPPOSE BUS LANE:
- Increased bus service reliability; Where is the data which supports this claim? How can a 100 meter stretch of new bus lane help with congestion.
- Improve bus passengers journey time; Where is the data which supports this claim? At what risks to local residents with small children and Broomfield School children using the existing verge. At the moment traffic is an appropriate distance to the verge/walkway.
- Encouraging the use of public transport; How can this encourage use of TFL buses when the new plans don’t include any bus stops on route. This is a total waste of money and resources bearing in mind the proposed new stretch of bus lane is only 100 metre in length.
- Providing a safer lane for cyclists; Please show us the facts and figures to support this claim as this road already accommodates to cyclists as it’s very wide in places allowing room for motorists and cyclists.
- Providing priority for emergency vehicles; As a local resident I have never seen an emergency vehicle struggle to get down Bowes Road due to its size allowing vehicles to pull over to a safe distance to allow emergency vehicles through. Please back up this claim with data.
