Stop Project Spud: Demand Reconsideration!

Stop Project Spud: Demand Reconsideration!
The Issue
We, the residents of Nampa, Idaho, urgently call on the Nampa City Council to reconsider and reverse the approval of CUP-00358-2024, the proposal to construct a massive hazardous materials storage and distribution center, known as "Project Spud," at Midland and Ustick.
This project, led by Tractor Supply Company, involves an 860,000-square-foot distribution facility—with plans to expand by another 150,000 square feet—that will store and package flammable, combustible, and corrosive liquids for commercial distribution. While the project has been approved, it is not too late to stop this mistake and protect the well-being of our community.
Why We Need Reconsideration
ENDANGERING FAMILIES AND CHILDREN
The approved facility is located near family-filled neighborhoods and an elementary school just down the road. Storing hazardous chemicals in this location creates unacceptable risks for accidents, toxic spills, and fires, putting our children and residents in harm’s way.
INCREASED TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION
The Midland/Ustick area is already congested, and this project will add large commercial trucks, industrial equipment, and pollution to our streets, worsening traffic conditions and creating dangerous roadways for families and school buses.
THREAT TO PROPERTY VALUES
Hazardous industrial facilities are proven to lower home values, making it harder for families to sell or build equity. This project directly undermines the financial stability of surrounding neighborhoods.
DISREGARD FOR COMMUNITY GROWTH
Nampa is one of Idaho’s fastest-growing cities, with families seeking safe, livable neighborhoods. This project represents the wrong kind of growth—prioritizing industrial expansion over the health, safety, and quality of life for our residents.
LOSS OF FARMLAND AND RURAL IDENTITY
Replacing farmland with hazardous industrial development erodes Nampa’s agricultural heritage, which is a key part of our community’s character.
It’s Not Too Late to Act!
We urge the Nampa City Council to:
- Listen to the concerns of residents.
- Reevaluate the safety risks and long-term impacts of this project.
- Reverse the approval and find safer, more suitable locations for industrial development.
Nampa deserves thoughtful, sustainable growth that prioritizes the well-being of its families and children. We cannot afford to let a project like this jeopardize our community's safety, property values, and future.
Sign this petition to demand that the Nampa City Council reconsider their decision! Together, we can protect our neighborhoods, our children, and the future of our city.
