Animals hold a special place in our hearts. However, my heart aches every time I see horses being exploited for profit through carriage rides. These beautiful creatures are put through immense stress for human entertainment—a practice that raises serious ethical concerns and has to stop.

Horses, like any other animals, deserve to live in environments that prioritize their well-being and dignity. Sadly, those employed in carriage rides often endure harsh working conditions. They pull heavy loads through busy streets, exposed to extreme weather conditions—rain, scorching sun, or biting cold. Without adequate respite or care, their health deteriorates over time, causing pain and suffering.

Urban developments in cities like New York, Chicago, and other bustling metropolises expose these gentle animals to daily threats. Traffic accidents pose a constant danger, not to mention that the noise pollution and lack of restful breaks further exacerbate their distress. Despite regulations, oversight is often lacking, leaving room for exploitation.

A 2019 study published by World Animal Protection highlights alarming statistics: horses involved in urban carriage rides often live three times less than their counterparts who are not subjected to such conditions. These unhealthy environments lead to chronic health issues such as respiratory problems and joint deterioration, shortening their lifespan considerably.

We need to implement alternative measures such as carriages equipped with electric pull systems or promoting rides using sustainable transportation that does not involve animal labor. Cities can still provide romantic, scenic rides without causing harm to innocent creatures.
