Hi everyone,

Thank you so much to everyone who has signed and supported the petition so far — your signatures and encouragement mean the world during this tough time. It’s been online for several days now, and the growing support shows how many Australians are fed up with preventable power outages during heatwaves.

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve added a new proposed law (Point 5) to strengthen protections for rooftop solar owners:

5. Compensation for Lost Solar Export During Prolonged Outages from Known Faults

Where a prolonged electricity outage occurs due to a known network fault (and requires or would have required the supplier to use alternative on-site generators), the electricity distributor must pay solar customers $0.65 per kilowatt-hour for the estimated daytime solar export they would have fed into the grid.

This payment applies daily during the outage, specifically for the hours between 06:00 and 19:30 (typical daylight/export hours), until the fault is fully repaired.

•  Calculated based on your historical average daily daytime export (from the previous 12 months) or system rated capacity (whichever is lower).

•  In addition to any existing Guaranteed Service Level payments.

•  Automatically paid or via simple claim, funded by shareholders (not passed to customers).

This addresses the unfair situation where grid-tied solar systems shut down completely during outages due to safety rules — even when the grid fails because of known, longstanding faults — meaning we lose potential earnings and grid benefits through no fault of our own.

With the extreme January 2026 heatwave (temperatures hitting 42–43°C+ in Sydney suburbs like ours in Emu Plains) still fresh, and similar issues affecting thousands across NSW and beyond, now is the time to keep building momentum.

Please help spread the word! Share the petition link with your friends, family, neighbours, local Facebook groups, community pages, solar/energy forums, and on social media. Every share brings us closer to real change — stronger accountability, faster fixes for known faults, and fairer protections for vulnerable households and solar users.

Together, we can push for nationwide reforms that put people first, not just profits.

Huge thanks again — stay cool and safe out there.
