Stop president Trump from Negatively Impacting LGBTQ+ Rights

The Issue

As a Bisexual individual with close friends who identify as gay and transgender, I'm alarmed by recent policies adopted under President Trump that directly affect my community. These policies are not merely harmful, but blatantly hateful and homophobic, resulting in a precarious situation for vulnerable LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly children. There's a growing body of research that draws a concerning connection between such regressive legislation and increased suicide rates amongst gay and transgender youth. For instance, a study from the Trevor Project in 2020 revealed that 40% of LGBTQ+ youth have seriously considered suicide in the past year, with more than half of transgender and non-binary youth having actually attempted it. This alarming statistic is a jarring reminder of the human cost of such detrimental policies. Homophobia and transphobia must not be institutionalized, they must be fought at all levels of governance. We urge the current administration to reverse these harmful policies and take into account the mental health, safety, and inherent human rights of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Kindly sign this petition and join the fight against systematic discrimination and injustice.
