Without notice, and after claiming that plans to remove the animals were on pause, Alexandra Wolfe, Executive Director of Preservation Long Island, with Dori Scofield, President of Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue, attempted to remove the animals of Sherwood-Jayne Farm today.
With the help of concerned community members, including recently reelected Suffolk County Legislator Steve Englebright, and the peacekeeping of the Suffolk County Police Department, the swift and deceitful attempt was unsuccessful.
The plan to remove the animals remains in place. Wolfe has refused to connect current caregiver Susanna Gatz with Snowball's proposed future caregiver, demonstrating medical neglect for the elderly, 40-something-year-old pony. PLI, with the help of Scofield, plan to relocate the sheep of Sherwood-Jayne Farm to Berkshire Farm Sanctuary, a five hour drive away, whose mission "is to rescue, rehabilitate and provide a safe haven for abandoned, abused and neglected companion and farm animals." These animals are and have been well cared for and adored by not just Gatz, but many, many community members.
