Are you aware that police officers have the right to come out where an injured animal is and then  make the decision whether they think it’s suffering, and proceed to shoot it regardless if it’s in your backyard, front yard, it doesn’t matter where?? Are you aware that the answer is to shoot the animal regardless if they might have a chance at survival?? I’ve witnessed this horrific act to a fawn over the summer and I nearly had a heart attack. I was screaming on the top of my lungs to them!! I was so distraught, and so angry that I called the police station and proceeded to scream at whoever answered the phone about this incident. I was told, the police have the right to use their weapons in residential neighborhoods, and if they feel an animal is suffering, then they take matters into their own hands. I asked them “ since when do the police have a veterinary license to make that decision “? And I proceeded yelling at the woman “ and since when are they allowed to use their firearms in a residential neighborhood “? She proceeded to tell me that they can use their weapons when needed. I said” oh, that’s right, police can do whatever they want”! And hung up on her. I’ve made complaints about this bc it’s not the police’s job to do any such thing unless an animal is dangerous and harmful to anyone. And that the use of firearms should only be considered when chasing or facing a dangerous person. They just shot a doe that a woman saw it curled up but breathing and she grabbed a blanket to keep her warm while she was waiting for animal control. Little did this woman know that they were never coming bc they never do!! To her shock, police shot the doe and left her on the side of the road. This is unacceptable behavior. Animal control officers are supposed to come out regardless of what time it is, assess the situation and make their decisions accordingly. And if they feel the animal is truly suffering, then you do your job in a more humane way. Euthanasia is more appropriate than watching a cop shoot an animal and possibly a few times. Animal control gets paid a decent salary. So why aren’t they doing their job? Why is there 1 guy listed for animal control? Not every state or county has cops come out doing animal control’s job. But here in Ocean County, don’t be fooled into thinking animal control is going to show up. The police will be there to shoot whatever animal it is regardless of what condition it’s in. Their answer to every injured animal, is to shoot it!! Let’s stop this horrific act from continuing. Let’s make sure the police do THEIR JOB, and animal control does THEIR JOB. I want to see thousands of signatures on this petition!! It’s un called for police to make the decision of what a licensed veterinarian should do or not do depending on the situation. No more rights for police officers to come out for any injured animals. Only animal control should have the right. And only if an animal is a threat and it better be a huge threat, should police be able to take action. That’s it! If you believe animal control should be the only ones called for an injured animal or whatever circumstances are regarding an animal, if you agree it’s their job to protect, save, help, or euthanize an animal and not a cops right to do a job that isn’t theirs and isn’t in their job description and shouldn’t have any rights to come out for our wildlife unless the animal is a threat to society, please sign now and tell everyone you know about this. Let everybody know this is the true facts of this matter and we need to put it to an end. I was just reminded of another thing you’ll be angry about. Over the summer we had to put my dog down. While the vet was here making small chitchat, I had mentioned about all this police and animal control crap and he proceeded to tell me that he had a deer with 4 broken legs, clearly was suffering, but had to wait 4 hours before euthanizing the poor deer bc he had to wait for police to get there!! What the hell do the police need to be there for? This was a licensed vet trying to do his job and in a correct manner and also knowing that this animal didn’t really stand a chance ( no pun intended) but no chance of being able to live carefree again. And yet, had to sit bye with this poor creature ( who I would’ve doped it up before idiots came) so the deer could have been in less discomfort while waiting the arrival of police. Could you imagine sitting with an animal you can clearly see is suffering, but you can’t do anything about it until police arrive?? I would have went ballistic on them and if I were a vet, I’d put in a complaint that this shouldn’t even be a matter for police to come out for. And I would’ve pressed charges against them for animal cruelty bc that’s exactly what it came down to!! They let an animal suffer knowingly. There was a vet there to handle the situation. Until this petition gets victory, unless you honestly think an animal is suffering, then you know who to call and it’s not animal control! But should you witness police coming out for an animal and you’re not sure about the animals condition, use your own judgement on what you think is the best thing to do. Bc I’ll tell you this much, IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN IN MY PRESENCE. I will stop them! And there’s nothing they can do about it. Learn your real laws not the fake ones we’ve all been following. No one has authority over anyone unless you’re under age, severely mental or a risk to others. That’s it folks! Learn your rights. And let’s keep fighting for ourselves and for those who can’t speak!
