Stop plastic from entering the ocean

Stop plastic from entering the ocean
The Issue
When I went to the beach, I witnessed a painful scene. Plastic bottles covered a stretch of the beach, and no one even attempted to clean it up. It just sat there waiting to decompose.
This painful sight is not just an isolated incident; it reflects a global crisis that is destroying our marine ecosystems. Every year, about 8 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans. This is the equivalent of dumping a garbage truck full of plastic into the ocean every minute (source: National Geographic).
Plastic pollution harms marine life, kills seabirds, and contaminates our food chain. Sea turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and consume them, leading to fatal blockages. Fish ingest microplastics, and these microplastics make their way up the food chain to our dinner plates (source: World Wildlife Fund).
To tackle this issue, we must enforce stricter regulations on plastic waste and invest in innovative solutions such as biodegradable materials. Countries like Rwanda have taken drastic measures by banning single-use plastics, and this has resulted in cleaner streets and waterways. Why can't we do the same?
We urge legislators to implement nationwide bans on single-use plastics, increase funding for cleanup efforts, and promote research into plastic alternatives. These are actionable steps we can take now to stop the scourge of plastic pollution.
Join me in advocating for our oceans, marine life, and future generations. Sign this petition to demand that our government take immediate and effective action against plastic pollution. Our oceans deserve better, and it starts with us taking a stand. Please sign and share this petition widely—let's be the change the world needs.
