Pfizer has announced the discontinuation of their contraception injection, DEPO-PROVERA. Many Canadians rely on this form of contraception for many reasons. It is discrete and completely stops menstruation. What about individuals with disabilities? My sister is 25 years old and has low functioning autism and she’s not the only one. This injection prevents her from getting her period, avoiding a traumatic experience for her, monthly. Pfizer has taken this off the market to focus on COVID-19 vaccines. While this is important, it doesn’t address the deep need for DEPO for thousands of people across Canada and the United States. Some may argue that the side effects are not ideal but think of the people that truly need this. The positives for women, like my sister, greatly outweigh the negatives. There is currently no alternative for DEPO-PROVERA that causes minimal pain and avoids menstruation. 
It is not only people with disabilities, but women who experience domestic violence and those who do not want their partners to know because they have different beliefs. This is a WOMEN’S RIGHTS violation and it needs to be stopped! Please sign this petition for women EVERYWHERE, if not for my sister who means the world to me.
