The Issue

My beloved dog passed away last month from transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC), and our veterinarian suspects that lawn pesticides played a significant role in her illness. This devastating loss has motivated me to take action, as I'm not the only one suffering from the impacts of such harmful practices. Many of our neighbors have voiced their concerns about the dangers of lawn pesticides to our local property management office, but nothing has been done. Those concerns are based on real evidence: countless studies link chemical lawn treatments with various health risks.

Children and babies, who frequently play on these treated lawns, are particularly vulnerable to pesticide exposure. These chemicals can irritate sensitive skin, and the inhalation of concentrated pesticides puts young lungs at risk. Adults, especially those with pre-existing respiratory issues, are also affected. Every year, 3-4 times like clockwork, we are forced to breathe in these harmful chemicals against our will.

According to research, transitional Cell Carcinoma in dogs has been closely linked to exposure to lawns treated with pesticides. This type of cancer is aggressive, and the fact that something as preventable as lawn care practices might be contributing to this disease is frustrating and heart-breaking.

We are not helpless in this situation. Safer, more environmentally responsible lawn-care alternatives are available that do not rely on conventional chemical pesticides and herbicides. Organic and naturally derived lawn-care products can help maintain healthy grass, manage weeds, and support soil health while reducing unnecessary exposure for residents, children, pets, and local wildlife. We are asking the association to consider transitioning to organic lawn-care practices and products whenever treatment is necessary, prioritizing options with the lowest possible toxicity and environmental impact.

By signing this petition, you join us in demanding that our neighborhood opts for non-toxic and organic lawn care methods. Together, we can protect our loved ones—pets, children, and adults alike—by eliminating the use of hazardous pesticides. Join us in advocating for safer, healthier outdoor spaces. Please, add your signature to ours and help make a change for the betterment of our community.
