Policy & Resources Committee (P&R) have submitted an application for outline approval to build multi-storey accommodation on a greenfield site at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

The image above is a detail from the application, with Duchess of Kent House top-middle, Rue Mignot from La Vauquiedor to PEH top-right. The development and car park runs down the valley to Rue Mignot.

This petition calls on those islanders who object to the Application to register their objections as soon as possible; the period for submissions ends on 10 January – there is no time to lose.

P&R are claiming the development and Application should be considered under IDP Policy S5, which would mean a range of planning policies and policy requirements can be set aside for this Application.

WHY I BELIEVE THE APPLICATION SHOULD BE REJECTED

I have several reasons this development should not proceed on this site but any objection to an application under Policy S5 may be viewed by DPA from a narrow perspective, and therefore my objection needs to stay focused on issues within the planning process itself;

The Application should be rejected as it fails to demonstrate there is no alternative more suitable site available and therefore the requirements of Policy S5 have not been met.

·        P&R S5 application cover letter acknowledges that Policy S5 requires the Application to demonstrate that there is no alternative more suitable site available.

·        This Application has no mention nor detail of any other site which had been considered and no rationale for discounting any other site.
