The city of Pasadena, CA recently decided to paint the curbs a fluorescent red, a color so bright and glaring that it's causing a significant disruption to the neighborhood ambiance. As a resident of Pasadena, I am deeply concerned that this change does not align with the aesthetic values of our community. The vibrant color is not only in stark contrast to the overall look of our historic and beautiful neighborhood, but it also negatively impacts those of us with vision challenges.

When stepping out for a walk, the last thing one expects is to be confronted with an assault of bright red curbs that clash with the calm and charming demeanor of the streets. Many residents, especially those who have had vision issues in the past, find it increasingly difficult to adjust. This abrupt change is burdensome and sometimes even dangerous for those sensitive to such bright hues.

Historically, our curbs were painted a dark maroon, a choice that seamlessly blended with the surrounding architecture and greenery while still maintaining its functional purpose without being overwhelming. The maroon shade supported the aesthetic integrity of our community and was a conscious decision that put residents' needs first.

This decision was not discussed openly with community members nor was there a transparent consultation process to understand the potential impacts on residents, and this is not how decisions should be made in a community-oriented city like Pasadena.

I propose that we revert the curb color back to the original dark maroon. Moreover, applying a different color would not diminish the functional purpose of the markings, as maroon is distinct enough to fulfill safety requirements.
