The Issue

The beauty of Delray Beach, Florida, is not just its sandy shores and vibrant arts scene. It's the people who live and work here that make our community truly special. However, recent decisions by the city to impose parking fees threaten the very lifeblood of our town's economic and social atmosphere.

Currently, the City of Delray Beach is imposing a $10 monthly payment, plus a $3 service charge if you are using a credit card on workers simply for coming to their place of employment. In addition, visitors face a $1.50 hourly charge, or a $2 a hour with four hour limit, to park and enjoy what our city has to offer. While these charges may seem minor, their cumulative impact can deter visitors and place undue strain on our local businesses.

Our businesses are already struggling with the rising costs due to inflation. By adding the burden of parking fees, we risk pushing our community further into economic distress. Visitors will think twice before enjoying a meal at our local restaurants or shopping at our unique boutiques. We need foot traffic to keep our businesses alive and thriving.

Furthermore, this also impacts the workers who are the backbone of these businesses. Many of them are local residents who depend on their jobs to pay their bills and support their families. However, if they are charged just to park at work, the financial strain may be too much to bear. Some may be forced to leave their jobs as a result, causing disruptions not just in their lives but also impacting the businesses they work for.

We urge the City of Delray Beach to reconsider these parking fees and seek alternative solutions that won't penalize our workers or deter our visitors. Perhaps offering a discounted parking pass for workers or validating parking for visitors making purchases can help. There must be a balanced approach that considers the residents, workers, and businesses equally.

Delray Beach needs your help to stop these unfair parking fees. Stand with us for better solutions and a thriving community. Please sign this petition to encourage the city to lift these parking fees and preserve the welcoming and prosperous atmosphere of Delray Beach.
