West Northamptonshire council plan to increase the parking charges in April.

 

 

 

This petition plan to STOP this increase and lobby to create 2 hours FREE parking for all visitors to Northampton town centre.

 

With local competition such as Rushden Lakes, Bicester and Milton Keynes all offering FREE or subsidised parking our local authority needs to act.

 

FREE parking is imperative to encourage footfall into Northampton as well as making our town an attractive proposition for future investment.

 

If we do not see this happen, sadly, we will observe more and more shops being forced to close and the council will see less and less rate being paid as the retailers leave our town.

 

Until we see a better offering of leisure and a reason for people to stay in town, we will have to come to terms with people using Northampton to spend short periods of time picking up essentials and using it as a convenience.

 

Amazon offer FREE delivery and this has now become industry standard. How can we expect people to pay to shop? It’s unsustainable and unviable.

 

This Petition is aimed at preventing an increase and having the council offer FREE parking for 2 hours.

 

With the support and backing of Northampton Chronicle and Echo, we can make this happen.
