Living on Rakeway Estate, I, along with a group of fellow residents, am increasingly concerned about the proposed development on Manifold Drive. Our peaceful community is under threat due to plans to build new houses, which will disrupt the tranquility and safety of our beloved neighborhood. Many of us chose this area for its quiet streets, open spaces, and sense of community—a development like this could irrevocably alter the very fabric of our everyday lives.
There have been numerous studies showing that increased urban development can lead to heavier traffic, pollution, and strain on local resources. For a place like Cheadle, which values its green spaces and community bonds, such a development raises the risks of losing what makes this place special. According to the Campaign to Protect Rural England, urban sprawl is a growing threat that not only depletes greenbelt zones but also impacts biodiversity.
We have concerns that the only route on and off the proposed dwellings is on to Rakeway estate this will impact significantly on traffic through Cheadle and onto the estate, using roads that are in poor condition now, nevermond with increased traffic of construction and then additional people.
There is evidence of increased water lying and staying in the local fields, on the roads and in residents gardens, further houses will increase this as there will be less green areas to soak up rain water.
At ths point we are not sure what wildlife or plant life exists in the feild proposed for development but over the years we as residents have been lucky enough to have seen and had visits from foxes, newts, hedgehogs, bats and numerous types of birds.
Furthermore, additional housing could put immense pressure on local infrastructure, such as schools and medical facilities, which are already operating at maximum capacity. Addressing these issues should be a community priority before any further development plans are approved.
I ask the residents of Cheadle and those concerned about maintaining the character of our town to sign this petition to halt the plans for building on Manifold Drive. We need to act swiftly and decisively to send a clear message to our local council: preserve our environment, safeguard our community, and keep Cheadle a place we're proud to call home. Please sign and share the petition to save Manifold Drive from unnecessary and harmful development.
