Stop or Reconsider the Beehive Subdivision
The Issue
The Crossville Regional Planning Commission has granted preliminary plat approval for the proposed “Beehive Subdivision,” a 124-lot residential development planned on approximately 30 acres near Stone Memorial High School.
While this project is still in the early stages, it is moving forward quickly—and the decisions made now will have long-term consequences for our community.
This subdivision would bring a significant increase in traffic to an already sensitive area, particularly with its main entrance now planned off Beehive Lane. Even with proposed improvements to the sharp curve at the entrance, many residents have serious concerns about safety—especially given the proximity to a high school and daily student traffic.
In addition to traffic concerns, this development raises important questions about infrastructure capacity, drainage, and the overall impact on the character of the area. With 124 homes on relatively small lots (approximately 0.14–0.19 acres), this represents a high-density change that may not align with the current nature of the surrounding community.
Another major concern is the impact this development will have on our local schools. Stone Elementary is already serving our community, and a development of this size could bring a significant influx of new students. At this time, there are serious concerns about whether the school has the capacity, staffing, and resources to absorb that growth without negatively affecting classroom sizes, teacher workload, and overall student experience.
While growth is inevitable and can be positive, it must be done responsibly and with full consideration of the people who already live here.
At this stage, there is still an opportunity for the Planning Commission and local leadership to pause, reevaluate, and ensure that this project truly serves the best interests of Crossville residents.
