Stop Ontario giving Public Parkland to town of Wasaga Beach for Privatization!
The Issue
The provincial parks in Wasaga Beach were created in 1959.
This gave locals and tourists a chance to spend time in forested areas close to the beautiful waters of Georgian Bay. The provincial park staff gave talks on local flora and fauna and tended to the beach to keep it clean and safe.
This also allowed the Province to not pay any taxes on the land.
But that’s all going to change, because Doug Ford has “given” the land back to the town.
All of Beach areas 1&2 are now going back into the hands of the town, which is making plans to sell the land or rights to the land to private interests.
“A world class marina at the mouth of the river”
”Upscale private homes”
”World class retail and entertainment venues”
These are the ideas being thrown around.
A tax base is important to any community’s survival. But once we sell our public green spaces, that’s it. They’re gone. What’s more, sensitive environmental lands and at-risk species will be further compromised.
With all the new rules being implemented in favour of developers, it’s time for people to stand up and be heard.
Yes, we need progress. Yes, we need jobs and a tax base. But we need public space to remain public space. Build in Wasaga, but not on our beachfront.
