On April 20, 2010, in the largest environmental disaster in U.S. history, BP’s exploratory Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded. "Eleven people died and it took 87 days to stop the spilling well. This resulted in a loss of 10 million user-days of beach visits, fishing and boating. Since [the Deepwater Horizon spill], safety standards have not been improved in any meaningful way." 8 years may have passed since that horrific moment and aftermath, but the underlying problem persists. To #ProtectOurCoast, we must simply say NO to offshore drilling. We must pressure our policy-makers and business leaders to enforce regulations and increase health and safety standards. Please help us keep up this campaign's momentum to protect our oceans from offshore drilling on Earth Day and every day. Share this update on social media over the weekend to spread awareness about the Deepwater Horizon Anniversary today. Thank YOU for speaking up for our oceans, coasts and wildlife! Have a wonderful Earth Day protecting what you love.
