This is what was read at the 3/17 county meeting
We come here tonight to voice our community concerns about the proposed changes within our neighborhood. It came to our attention on March 7th that an orange sign had been posted on a property for sale on Campground Road. This sign indicated that a hearing had already been held on March 3rd. The application is requesting a special exception under Section 404 and 508 of the county zoning ordinances to authorize a group home and/or institutional residence. The property is located in a Residential District, which authorizes the uses as a special exception. Several community members have openly expressed that they would have attended March 3rd if they had been aware of the hearing. We are asking you to consider our community’s safety, maintaining our children’s classic lifestyle, and continuing to keep family homes on our road by denying this proposed zoning exception.
Our neighborhood is full of families and children, sporting events, outdoor church activities, and community picnics. We have large groups of children who walk to a school neighboring this property. Collectively, there are hundreds of people visiting Campground Road to attend girls' softball games, youth soccer games, family reunions, birthday parties, weddings, as well as to play at the only public playground in the area. Should anything occur at any of these events, our local fire company relies on the availability of volunteers to respond. Logan Township is subject to an extended response time from other emergency services due to no local police, ambulance, or crisis units.
We choose to live in this rural area where it could seem like you are traveling back in time, where several still travel by horse and buggy. The children gather to play nostalgic neighborhood games, have bike races, play at the park, and swim in the creek. We live in a place that is rare to find in today’s society, where we look out for everyone’s children, allowing them to play freely and safely.
This residential area is comprised of family homes, some even being multi-generational. That is why we are here today, to preserve the family-oriented environment in which we have all grown to love. Approving any type of group home or institution jeopardizes the safety and values of this community. Again, we ask you to consider our concerns by denying the exception, allowing us to continue enjoying the freedom and peace that have been present in our neighborhood for decades.
