Stop North Street Acres: Say No To The Proposed 170-Unit Development

The Issue

North Street is a quiet cul-de-sac made up of 28 homes. This development threatens to turn North Street and Hudson Avenue into busy thoroughfares and to change the character of the neighborhood by adding 3-story 26-unit buildings, 200+ new cars, and 369 new parking spots.

We oppose North Street Acres because it will increase traffic by upwards of 600%. The increased traffic will be funneled through the single intersection at North Street and Hudson Avenue. From there, traffic will flow to the already overburdened intersections of Adams & Kenwood, and Hudson & Delaware. Traffic backup will obstruct EMS on Adams Street, and traffic from North onto Adams may obstruct the Fire Department, delaying critical response times.

We oppose North Street Acres because the size and scale of this project will endanger pedestrians. The intersection of North Street and Hudson Avenue is an open crossing of the rail trail. Increasing traffic by over 6x at this intersection endangers pedestrians and cyclists.

We oppose North Street Acres because accommodating traffic from 170 new residences will require the developer to widen North Street by digging up the lawns of current residents, clearing trees along the road, and expanding the paved surface of North Street.

We oppose North Street Acres because it will destroy several acres of forest and wetlands, decimating a healthy habitat for wildlife.

We oppose North Street Acres because it will destroy the tranquility of the community. Current residents chose this location for the peace and quiet. Increasing the population of the Hudson Avenue Community by 2x and the population of North Street by 6x will destroy the character of the neighborhood.
