Stop North East Data Centres
The Issue
After starting this petition for the Data centre in Cambois, I have recently came across newer information on more data centres that are to be built and that have already been built.
“A North East council leader has cautioned against the "overdevelopment" of AI data centres, amid mounting concerns over plans for three new sites” One of which being the Cambois data centre and the other two yet to be approved.
The first £10bn Cambois data centre, supported by Blackstone will be 133 acres and around a mile away from a primary school.
The second being West Sleekburn that is less than two miles from QTS’s 6m sq ft Cambois, Wansbeck Regeneration Ltd is seeking permission for a £3.84 billion scheme on the former GlaxoSmithKline site.
Whilst Applicant TBC Partners is planning to build on the site of HFF Aggregates and Civil Engineering for the third.
Supposedly there is two already operational data centres in Newcastle and two in Cobalt business park.
When first researching, I found information about how they proposed the combois data centre will not use water, however the chemicals it will be producing such as Carbon Monoxide could still equally have just as bad as an effect on our environment.
Wildlife and housing around these Data centres will be immediately affected, surrounding homes will also be affected by the constant noise the data centres create.
The environmental damage these could cause, the pollution of our air and water.
The amount of money, land and energy wasted on these sites that will accelerate climate change.
I want to bring awareness to the impacts that that will personally and environmentally affect every individual in the Northeast.
Data centres now consume roughly 6 percent of Britain’s electricity.
And bills have been going up for the common house hold due to the amount of energy these data centres are using and we are being told to cut down on our water intake, including shower and drinking water.
Why was the construction of these not front page news? We deserve a say too.
This is not the future we deserve.
