A promise was broken and we need your help again!
Thanks to supporters like you, our petition caught the attention of the authors of the Compassion for Community Cats Law in 2022. In a gesture of good faith, the author of the bill assured us that our proposed amendments would be incorporated.
We were disheartened to see the same Compassion for Community Cats Law reintroduced as S261 in early 2024 without the agreed-upon modifications, despite written confirmation that the changes would be incorporated.
Our disappointment quickly turned to action as we realized that reform of animal control is the answer, not replacement of animal control with rescues. The Compassion for Community Cats Law still does not provide adequate funding for TNR as its supporters claim - its main objective is slashing animal control's responsibility and leaving public health in the hands of residents and private rescues.
Now we are writing to you to ask for your help just one more time - let the bill's sponsors know that without the changes promised, their bill is going nowhere.
We'd be so grateful if you can support us by signing our latest petition by clicking here.
We have more good news: NJ S3919/A4898 has been introduced this year and establishes a chain of command and defines standards of care that still allow for shared services, contracts, and other flexibility across our widely varying municipalities across the state. You can read it here as well as on our Community Connection page.
