Stop Nicotine Pouches to Save the Lives of Youths in Kenya
The Issue
The future of Kenyan youths is quickly fading due to unnecessary addiction caused by oral nicotine pouches. It is worrying that these highly addictive substances are easily accessible and affordable to people as young as 13 and are being sold in close proximity to schools. Since the illegal introduction of nicotine pouches into the Kenyan market in 2020, there has been a sharp increase of nicotine addiction among young people, which predisposes them to diverse health effects.
Suppose the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Health and those concerned do not act expeditiously. In that case, we are likely to see our young people being entrapped in unnecessary addiction that would lead to increased risks of damaged brains, increased cancer risks, increased risk of fatalities for patients from cardiovascular disease, increased risk of heart attack, decreased sperm count brain impairment, and reduced cognitive ability and among other effects.
Nicotine as the primary product in nicotine pouches has adverse health effects and immediate action need to be taken to avert the imminent extinction of our young people. This petition will be delivered to the Ministry of Health and the Tobacco Control Board. Make your voice count! Sign this petition and let's save the lives of our young people.
