This new school year has come with many changes to policies some of them good, some horrible. One of these changes are “nicknames”, if you want to be called something besides a shorter version of your name you MUST have a signed permission slip. This could be very dangerous to the LGBTQ youth of Hillsborough County, if a child or teen happens to be trans and has a preferred name they HAVE to tell their parents about it so they will sign the paper. This forces kids to come out to parents who might not be supportive and can therefore endanger the child’s well being, and the teachers who don’t follow these rules will also get in trouble. I myself as a trans youth will not stand for this. So I created this petition to protect the Trans youth of Hillsborough county.
