Protecting our environment and maintaining the safety and property values of our area is deeply personal to me. A looming threat to these core aspects of our community is the proposal by Nextera Energy to rezone property on Brewer Road for the construction of a battery storage farm. Not only will this project invite serious safety hazards, as battery storage farms are known for their high-risk factors including fires and chemical spills, but it will also deal a devastating blow to the verdant landscapes we cherish so deeply. Aside from these concerns, such a project invariably leads to a significant decline in property values, forcing many homeowners to face financial instability. A study by the Appraisal Institute revealed that commercial developments in residential areas can lower nearby home values by as much as 12% to 14%.

In order to preserve the harmony of our environment and our homes, we must appeal to the board of commissioners to decline the request from Nextera Energy for the rezoning of Brewer Road, and to reject the proposal for a battery storage farm.
