Stop new taxes and fees in Maryland in 2027 legislative session
The Issue
As a long-time resident of Maryland, I have experienced and witnessed the impact of increasing taxes and fees on families and small businesses in our state. Over time, these financial burdens have grown heavier, creating a strain on our livelihoods while limiting our financial freedom. It has become increasingly difficult for many to make ends meet, and I believe that we need to take a proactive stance to ensure a better future for all Maryland residents.
One solution to help alleviate this burden is by implementing a freeze on any new taxes or fees, and increases to existing ones, during the 2027 legislative session. Instead of increasing financial demands on residents and businesses, Maryland should focus on reducing its expenses and collecting outstanding funds owed (e.g., $818 million in unpaid tolls owed by out-of-state drivers). If we need to pinch pennies and tighten our belts, so should the State.
I urge Maryland's leaders to adopt these measures and work towards a fiscally responsible path forward. By taking these actions, we can ease the financial pressure on Maryland families and businesses and foster an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Please join me in calling on our state leaders to take a common-sense approach that prioritizes responsible spending. Sign this petition to demand a freeze on new taxes and fees, as well as increases to existing ones, in Maryland during the 2027 legislative session.
