The Issue

Living near Mitchell Park and frequently visiting for leisure activities like tennis, I've personally experienced the challenges the community faces due to the increased footfall and traffic. Many times, when I plan to enjoy a simple tennis game, I find myself unable to park conveniently. Instead, I often have to search for parking spots outside the vicinity of Mitchell Park, which diminishes the joy of what should be a pleasant outing.

The growing trend of pickleball, while a positive development for sports enthusiasts, has led to an expansion of pickleball courts within the park. However, this has intensified the issues of heavy traffic and noise, causing considerable inconvenience for both park visitors and the nearby residents.

Mitchell Park, located in Palo Alto, CA, is a beloved community space meant to provide enjoyment and relaxation for everyone. Yet, with the escalating number of pickleball courts being proposed, the park risks becoming a source of stress rather than a sanctuary. The constant noise from gameplay disturbs the peace of the neighborhood, making it difficult for residents to enjoy their own homes.

To maintain the park's integrity and keep it accessible and enjoyable for all visitors, it's crucial to reconsider the development of additional pickleball courts. Instead of moving forward with more courts, we can focus on enhancing other areas of the park or creating more diverse recreational spaces that accommodate a variety of hobbies while respecting the neighborhood's tranquility.

Join me in urging local decision-makers to halt the construction of new pickleball courts in Mitchell Park and prioritize solutions that preserve the park's serenity and accessibility. Your support can make a difference. Sign this petition and help us ensure that Mitchell Park remains a peaceful and welcoming environment for everyone.
