The Issue

Sign the petition to STOP New Mining in Yadkin County.
With all the talk of conserving oil and the promise of half of all cars being electric (EV's) by 2030, the threat of foreign companies moving into Yadkin County to strip our land of its natural resources is great.
We feel that we are already doing our part in the realm of "green energy" by allowing the solar farms that, as far as the eye can see, cover our (once beautiful) hills and valleys. Anyone who has driven down Country Club Road can attest to this.
We, the citizens of Yadkin County, are calling on our decision makers to be PROactive, rather than reactive and STOP ALL NEW MINING in Yadkin County.
Right now a mining company is requesting rezoning for property directly behind West Yadkin Elementary School for mining. "They say" they are looking to mine aggregates. However, the secrecy and underhandedness in which they have exhibited does not lend itself to quarrying. Nonetheless, mining of any kind beside our children's safe haven should not be allowed.
Our experiences in our little community has forced us to think outside of Hamptonville to consider the entire county.
NOWHERE in Yadkin County is the appropriate place for a 500' hole in the ground that can NEVER be anything except that....a gigantic hole. Not to even mention the health risks, noise issues, traffic problems, suppressed property values, etc that mining will cause.
Our beloved Yadkin County is beautiful; we should all strive to keep it that way. Loose ordinances are NOT enough to fully protect the citizens.
By saying NO to mining you are saying YES to:
* Preserving our landscape
* Preserving our water supply
* Opportunity for progress and future growth
* Protecting our air quality
* Preserving our resources
* Protecting our children!
* and the list goes on and on ......
