The Issue

Arizona is home to more than 180 data centers built or under construction, and the power grid is buckling under the strain.

In late July, electricity demand hit 400 megawatts above last year's record, with data centers responsible for about half that spike. Arizona Public Service wants regulators to approve a 14% rate hike for everyday customers, plus a 45% hike for the large industrial users driving most of the growth.

Residents are feeling squeezed. Lawmakers paused new data center tax incentives for three years in June, but 113 new applications were filed before the pause took effect. That is not enough.

It is time to stop approving new data centers in Arizona until the grid can handle what is already here. The Arizona Corporation Commission, Governor Katie Hobbs, and state lawmakers can press pause on new projects and protect residents from footing the bill.

Sign the petition to stop new data center approvals in Arizona before another rate hike hits your bill.
