Stop Nevada's Task Force From Targeting Transgender Students
The Issue
Nevada voters added transgender protections to our state constitution in 2022, through the Equality of Rights Amendment. But state leaders are still finding ways to push transgender Nevadans out of everyday life — not through outright bans, but through task forces, rules, and paperwork.
In January 2025, Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony launched a "Task Force to Protect Women's Sports" aimed at keeping transgender girls off high school and college teams. Gov. Joe Lombardo tried something similar in 2024, pushing a ballot measure to ban transgender student athletes statewide. Voters didn't pass it — but Lombardo has said he plans to bring the fight back during the 2027 legislative session.
We've already seen where this leads in other states. Texas, Florida, and Kansas have all passed rules blocking transgender residents from updating the gender marker on their ID. Kansas has gone further, revoking driver's licenses from hundreds of transgender people. Writer Lotus Gage, who has watched someone close to her become too afraid to leave the house because of this political climate, calls these tactics a "paper ghetto" — using paperwork instead of walls to push people to the margins.
Nevada doesn't have to follow that path. Lt. Gov. Anthony and Gov. Lombardo should end the task force and drop plans to revive the sports ban in 2027. Our kids deserve to be judged by who they are, not sorted by administrative rule.
Sign the petition to tell Nevada's leaders: stop targeting transgender students — before more Nevadans are pushed out of public life.
