Stop NDSU's Hosting of the NDGOP Convention Promoting Discriminatory Resolutions

The Issue

As a third-generation North Dakotan, I am deeply disturbed by the fact that North Dakota State University (NDSU), a public institution funded by taxpayers, is planning to host the NDGOP Convention. This convention is set to bring forward resolutions that are homophobic, transphobic, and promote other forms of hate.

Many resolution committee members, including the 1st Vice Chairman of the party, John Trandem, have submitted resolutions meant to steer the party in a direction that would outlaw lgbt and trans rights.

This situation hits close to home for me because unlike the NDGOP, LGBT and Trans people pay taxes that fund NDSU (They also pay their utility bills unlike the NDGOP). It's disheartening to see our tax dollars being used to facilitate an event promoting the disenfranchisement of taxpayers.

In 2019 alone, over 11% of adults in North Dakota identified as LGBT (Gallup Poll). These individuals contribute significantly towards our state's economy and social fabric. Yet they face potential discrimination from policies promoted at this convention.

Public institutions like NDSU must uphold values of inclusivity and respect for all citizens regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. By hosting this convention, NDSU risks tarnishing its reputation as an institution committed to equality.

We urge the NDSU administration to consider their responsibility towards all taxpayers and their commitment to fostering an environment free from discrimination. We call on them to halt hosting the NDGOP Convention until it ensures no discriminatory resolutions will be brought forward.

Please sign this petition if you believe in equality and non-discrimination for all North Dakotans.
