Dane and Junee are exceptional human beings and are doing it really hard right now.
Junee is elderly, frail and her health is failing her. She is Danes last surviving family member and has been since her beloved husband, Rod, Danes father, passed away in 2010.
Junee has spent most of her adult life tirelessly advocating for awareness of disability issues, particularly in the area of autism. In recognition of her contribution in this area, Junee was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2014.
In addition, Junee wrote a must read book 'Smiling at the Shadows'. A biographical memoir about raising Dane who as an infant, did not meet his parents' gaze, but instead found comfort in smiling at the shadows of moving trees.
Dane himself competed in the 2003 Special Olympics in Dublin bringing home a bronze medal for Australia. In company with his South Australian Police buddies finished the Kokoda Challenge raising $5000 to support homelessness. Then in 2017 to once again raise money and bring awareness to Autism (and as a tribute to his later father) ran across Australia from Perth to Pambula running on average 50 kms per day taking him 3.5 months to finish.
And the government wants to take money away from this man?? Absolutely Criminal!! Please sign this petition, repost and encourage others to also do so.
